Settling in at our daycare in Valby
Leaving your little heart with us is not easy – trust us, we know
You will hand over someone very small, walk out of a door, and find that the
walk to the bus is the longest one of the year.
We know how this goes. Somewhere around ten past ten you will check your phone. Nothing
will have arrived, and you will have no way of telling whether that is a good sign or a
bad one.
10:07
So we send something at ten past ten. A line and a photograph, straight to your
family page. Not because there is news - because there isn’t, and you need to be
told that by somebody who can see them.
And on the days it went badly, we say that it went badly.
An English-speaking daycare
Nobody here needed words to understand each other
Long before a child has a single word, they already speak the first language
fluently. Being picked up. A voice they know. A face that arrives when they cry.
Our families come from all over. The grown-ups manage in English - that is
the language of the gate, the parties and the parent chat. The children arrive with no
shared language whatsoever, and it has never once slowed them down. They work each other
out in an afternoon, the way small people do.
Love first. English comes along later, in its own time.
It is why a family who landed in Copenhagen three weeks ago is inside this
community by the second morning.
You go, we wave, and seven hours later you come back.
In between, there is a shape to the day.

Our daycare staff in Valby
The same faces, week after week
A child settles because of a person, never because of a building.
So the question worth asking is not how many staff a place has, but whether
the face there on Monday is the one that was there on Friday. Ours are Martyna, Janet and
Deepa, and they have been here a long time.
Daycare fees and the kommune subsidy
A healthy breakfast, a hot lunch, and something proper in the afternoon
kr 12.700a month, before your kommune subsidy
All the food is included in that. Your kommune pays a share of the rest, and the
paperwork for it is less painful than it looks.

A daycare in Valby, Copenhagen
The same gate, every morning
Small children take comfort from a route they recognise. Ours know exactly
which door is theirs, and most of them could find it without help by the second month.
It is at Lyshøjgårdsvej 45, 2500 Valby.

The practical questions
The ones with a straight answer. The rest are best asked standing in the

What ages does Kidz R Os take?
Kidz R Os is a vuggestue for children aged 6 months to 3 years. Age is measured at the start date, so a child must be at least 6 months old on the day they start.
Is Kidz R Os a kindergarten or a preschool?
Neither, in the Danish sense: Kidz R Os is a vuggestue, the stage before kindergarten (børnehave). For a child under three it is the English-speaking daycare, nursery or preschool you are looking for; from 2 years 10 months a child in Copenhagen moves on to a børnehave, which we are not. The kindergarten and preschool pages on this site explain the Danish ages in full.
How much does Kidz R Os cost?
The monthly fee is kr 12.700 for children aged 6 months to 3 years, meals included. Families in København Kommune receive a subsidy of kr 8.909 a month, so the net cost is about kr 3.791 a month. Parents with a Danish CPR number claim it themselves - see Fees & subsidies for how.
Is Kidz R Os English-speaking?
Yes. Kidz R Os is an international daycare and the working language is English. Staff also speak Danish, and Danish children are welcome - parents only need reasonable English.
What are the opening hours?
Weekdays, 08:00 to 16:30, except on the holidays listed on our Holiday Calendar.
Where is Kidz R Os?
Lyshøjgårdsvej 45, 2500 Valby, Copenhagen, Denmark.
How do I apply for a place?
Complete the enrolment form on this website. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis. You may register before your child is born by giving the expected due date.
When are invoices due?
Invoices are issued at the start of each month and are payable within 7 days of the invoice date.
How much notice must I give to withdraw my child?
Two months' written notice, given between the first and fifth of any month. The invoices for the final two months of the notice period are payable in full.
Arrived here looking for a

mean something precise in Copenhagen, and each has a page of its own.
