About us

Small enough to be heldAbout our international daycare in Valby

A hive is thousands of identical cells, and every one of them holds exactly one small thing safely. That is the whole idea here.

Room to play, a table to eat at, a quiet room for the afternoon sleep, and a garden. At any moment there are some of us who cannot sit up yet and some who are nearly ready for børnehave, which is better for both ends than you would think. Small enough that when one of us goes quiet in a corner, somebody notices within the minute and comes over to find out why.

We have had the same privilege for years now: meeting someone who cannot yet hold their own head up, and handing them back three years later as a person with opinions. It has not worn off.

Children playing at Kidz R Os daycare in Valby

Licensed, inspected, and above board

Kidz R Os is a fully licensed facility and follows Danish safety regulations. We are a registered private daycare - CVR 35726039. Dull to write, important to know.

Small on purpose

Under-threes do not settle into a place. They settle into a person. That takes weeks of the same arms, the same voice and the same face at the door, which is only possible in a room where everybody knows everybody.

So we have kept it small, and we intend to keep it that way.

Most days

Our world, unposed

No captions. You can tell.

One day

Told the way we’d tell it, if we could talk yet

You go, we wave

Coats off, shoes off. Somebody is already here, and somebody is pleased to see us.

Healthy morning

Fruits cut up small, eaten at the table, mostly in our own mouths.

Everybody’s name

We sing, and our own name comes round, and we know that it is ours.

Outside

Prams for the smallest of us. Puddles for the rest of us.

Lunch, all together

Hot food, cooked here this morning. We are learning to wait, to share, and to get most of it in our mouths.

Sleep

In the quiet room, when we are tired with the grown-ups singing a lullaby to us. Not when the clock says so.

Something to eat, then the messy part

Paint, water, sensory play, music. This is the bit we will tell you all about at bathtime.

You come back

You always do. Whoever was with us today tells you how it went, at the door.

One year

Three times a year, the world gets bigger

The zoo

All of us, one bus, and a very long line of small people holding hands. For some of us it is the first elephant we have ever seen. For the grown-ups it is a headcount taken roughly every ninety seconds.

The summer party

Parents come to this one. You will finally put faces to the names you have been hearing about at bathtime for months.

The year-end party

The same again, colder, with more cake. This is where we say goodbye properly to the ones leaving for børnehave.

The parties are not really for us. They are how a family who knew nobody in this city in March finds out, by December, that they now know twenty people.

The door is genuinely open

Not an open day, not a scheduled tour. Any normal day, you can come in to say hello to us.
