The Copenhagen childcare subsidy, explained in English
A private daycare place in Copenhagen comes with a monthly subsidy from your kommune. You pay us the fee, you send the kommune a receipt, the kommune pays you. Here is the whole thing in one place - who gets it, how much, and the order to do it in.
The rules are Københavns Kommune's own, read in September 2026. Other kommuner have their own rate and their own forms.
The numbers
The subsidy is the kommune's rate for a child under three in full-time private care (30 hours a week or more; ours, 08:00 to 16:30, is well over that). It is lower for part-time care and for children over three, and the kommune revises it - when it changes, the fees page and this page change with it.
Who gets it
- You live in Københavns Kommune, at the same address as your child.
- Your child is between 24 weeks old and school age. Kidz R Os takes children from 6 months to 3 years, so every child here is inside that window.
- The place is in an approved private arrangement. Kidz R Os is a storordning - the kommune's word for a private daycare of at least ten children in business premises - approved by Københavns Kommune as an English-speaking daycare, and registered with them under our CVR number, which is what the contract form looks up.
- You have a CPR number, MitID and a NemKonto: the forms are sent with MitID, and the money can only be paid into a NemKonto.

How it works, in order

Your place is confirmed and our contract is signed
Nothing can be sent to the kommune before this: their form asks for the start date and the fee, which come from our contract.

You send the kommune's contract - before the first day
On kk.dk, under Privat pasningsordning, choose Udfyld kontrakt and sign in with MitID. You enter your child's details, choose storordning and our CVR number 35726039 (our name and address fill in by themselves), the start date, the hours (08:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday) and the fee, and you invite us as the carer. We confirm it in the kommune's system.
Timing matters: the subsidy runs from the start date in the contract, but never from earlier than the day the kommune received it. A contract sent two weeks late is two weeks of subsidy lost. Our guide to the contract shows every screen.

Each month: pay the invoice, then send the receipt
Our invoice comes at the start of the month. Once you have paid it, you fill in a receipt on kk.dk - Kvittering til privat pasning - with the amount you paid. We receive it by Digital Post and approve it, and only then does it reach the subsidy office. Keep your receipts for five years; the kommune asks you to. Our guide to the receipt shows the screens.

The kommune pays you
Into your NemKonto. Since 1 August 2026 the subsidy is paid in advance, at the earliest on the sixth working day of the month before. So in a normal month, two things happen: our invoice leaves your account and the kommune's subsidy arrives in it.

When your child leaves
You tell the kommune the subsidy should stop (ophør), and it stops. If a child were still in private care at 3 years 1 month the kommune would need a new contract at its lower rate; our children move on to a børnehave at three, so this rarely arises.
Three things families ask us
We have just arrived and have no CPR number yet. Then there is nothing to send yet. You pay the full fee until your CPR number, MitID and NemKonto exist, then send the contract; the subsidy starts from the day the kommune has it, not from your child's first day. Plan for the first weeks at the full fee.
We have two children. The sibling discount applies to private care too. The kommune works it out from the price of a kommune place for the age group, so the figure depends on your children's ages - ask them for your case.
We live in Frederiksberg, or outside Copenhagen. The subsidy comes from the kommune you live in, at its rate and on its forms; the steps are the same in shape. Tell us where you live and we will point you at the right page.

How much is the childcare subsidy in Copenhagen?
For a child under three in full-time private care, København Kommune pays kr 8.909 a month. The kommune has lower rates for part-time care and for children over three.
Is the subsidy paid to me or to the daycare?
To you. You pay the full fee to Kidz R Os, send the kommune a receipt for it each month, and the kommune pays the subsidy into your NemKonto. Since 1 August 2026 it is paid in advance, at the earliest on the sixth working day of the month before.
When does the subsidy start?
From the start date written in your contract, but never earlier than the day the kommune received that contract. Send it before your child's first day; the kommune does not pay for weeks that passed before it had the contract.
Do I need a CPR number to get it?
Yes. The contract and the monthly receipts are sent with MitID, which needs a CPR number, and the money goes to a NemKonto. A family that has just arrived pays the full fee until those are in place; the subsidy cannot be claimed back for the weeks before.
What does Kidz R Os do in all this?
We are the storordning on the kommune's side of the contract, approved by Københavns Kommune as an English-speaking daycare. When you send the contract we confirm it in the kommune's system, and every month we approve your receipt before it reaches the subsidy office.
